Nestled on the island of Gotland, the Gamify Energy Communities (GECO) project is on a mission to bring rural communities together through the use of design thinking, gamification, and energy conservation. We believe in the power of collective action to carve a sustainable path forward, aiming to turn energy management from a mundane task into a collaborative, engaging adventure. Central to our mission is the challenge of fostering open, inclusive, and efficient teamwork, surpassing traditional individualistic approaches to conservation in favour of nurturing a strong sense of community and shared objectives.

Our unique approach revitalizes community engagement by blending design thinking with gamification. This strategy is designed to make the act of saving energy a pleasurable and collective experience. Through thorough interviews and engagement with rural communities, we've identified key obstacles to unified community efforts. These findings have shaped the creation of various prototypes, each designed to captivate and empower in unique ways, ranging from digital and analogue games to practical applications.

Collaboration is the heart of the GECO project. We've formed four creative teams, each tasked with bringing these prototypes to life, engaging in a process of continual testing and improvement. Our aim extends beyond discovering viable solutions; we're focused on sparking excitement, motivating action, and building community ties around common goals.

Our vision is both bold and straightforward: to empower rural communities to kickstart and manage their energy initiatives successfully. By removing barriers and adding elements of fun, we're committed to not only advancing energy conservation but also fostering a deeper sense of unity and belonging within these communities. The GECO project stands as a testament to our dedication to groundbreaking solutions and the incredible potential of merging game elements with practical environmental actions.
